It’s that time of year, yall! Its officially Fall 2020 and the One Room Challenge has started! If you don’t know what the One Room Challenge is, it’s run by Better Homes & Gardens and it’s a community of DIY & design lovers that support each other while totally making over a space in their homes. Which is exactly what your girl is going to need in order to finish this guest bathroom makeover!
If you follow me on Instagram, then you’ll know that I’ve been working on smaller projects, ramping up to a big project like the one I’m about to take on. After I finished the accent wall in my master bedroom, I asked my Facebook and Instagram friends what I should do next and an overwhelming amount of people were curious how I’d tackle a guest bathroom. Well, so am I, friends, so am I.
I’ve been researching and planning what I’d like to do, and while I still have some open ends on the design, I’d like to walk through what I’m working with.
The Before Pictures
This room has always been so bland to me. It’s a pretty small bathroom and there are no windows so there’s no natural light coming in. It’s very easy to feel cramped in this space, so the challenge will be in making it feel more open and airy.
Without the shower curtain and the rug, this bathroom is basically a blank slat. Which has its perks since I’m not doing any demo-ing. Our house is only 2 years old, so it doesn’t need to be renovated or anything. I just want to design the space in a way that feels more like us.
The One Room Challenge Vision
So I definitely want to do an accent wall in this bathroom, behind the door and next to the vanity. I think it’ll be a stunning feature when you walk inside the bathroom. I’m planning to add some floating shelves, switch out the hardware and even do a frame for the mirror to make it feel more custom.
There’s a lot of fun projects heading this way, so make sure to sign up for the Melanated Maker DIY newsletter so you know exactly when a new blog is coming and can keep up with the weekly progress of this room and all my other projects.
